VEDDAS is actively participating in the organization of actions and movements against the construction of Belo Monte and against the new Forest Code, including the camp that began on 15 October in Sao Paulo.
Among other demands, the judgment of the actions that are stuck in TRF-1 aimed at stopping the construction of the Belo Monte dam, indigenous rights, by the law of nature and the direct democracy. During assembly of the camp, over 10 cars of the Metropolitan Civil Guard arrived on the scene to report that riot police would be triggered if no desmontássemos tents, alleging improper occupation soil. After some negotiations, decided by consensus to dismantle the barracks, leaving them on the floor and sleeping on top of them or makeshift tarps on these cold nights of early spring in Sao Paulo.
Power is made possible thanks to donations received from various sources and preparation of food by VEGETHUS, being distributed with the help of volunteers. All decisions are being taken by assemblies that are being made daily.
This Monday (17/10) the Federal Court dismissed an important action that could halt the construction of Belo Monte. It is the right of indigenous peoples to be consulted by Congress BEFORE the commencement of works. Unfortunately, the judge has not made a decision and asked to share views, thus postponing indefinitely his trial. Besides this action on prior consultation with indigenous peoples, other 11 actions denouncing illegalities in the process of Belo Monte stalled in court, awaiting trial.

If built, Belo Monte will roll with one of the richest regions in biological and cultural diversity of the planet to produce only 39% the installed capacity of power generation. Not to mention that the value of the work, mostly publicly funded, already exceeds the astronomical figure of R $ 30 billion.

With regard to animals that will be affected by the construction of Belo Monte and the amendment of the Forest, our struggle has only enough strength against that opponent to unite with other social struggles, such as the struggle of the peoples of the Xingu which we support at this time.

The camping continues in Valley Anhangabaú in Sao Paulo for so long when the souls of the brave campers withstand the weather being camped on the streets without shelter and comfort desired.
