VEDDAS in 24 days of actions: handcuffs, megaphones, outdoors, meetings and new projects in operation
We last 24 days (from the day 24 September 2010), the VEDDAS held a number of significant actions for the recognition of animal rights. Below is a brief account of the actions and learn how you can help.
Protesto SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty)
On 24 September 2010, Brazil participated in the Week of Action of the controversial international SHAC campaign (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty), pressing for the closure of the largest vivisection lab in the world, a Huntingdon Life Sciences, killing 500 animals per day in their labs and other torture thousands every moment. The campaign for the closure of HLS has approximately 10 weekly protests worldwide (more than one per day) and now, for the first time, Brazil participates officially the world campaign, which is regarded as the most successful campaign against animal experimentation.
Marking the first protest of SHAC in Brazil, 30 animal rights activists gathered in Sao Paulo to protest in front of the office of Nomura, a company that owns 30% shares of Fortress Investment Group, which in turn has a loan vital to Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), whose financial health is in trouble some years ago. Front of a commercial building located at Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima, area of the city of São Paulo, activists have exposed to the public and neighbors at Nomura, so very vocal, where the company chooses to invest your money: animal torture and fraudulent science. Outdoor in Santo André, SP
During the month of October 2010, who passed by Rua Manoel de Nóbrega (close to the number 580), in Santo André (SP), faced with the striking image of a billboard showing various heads of pigs hanging from hooks illustrating the animals that are slaughtered for their meat consumption. Published 27 September 2010 and initially planned to stay for two weeks, the impact was such, generating even in the newspapers of the city, that his view was extended for two more weeks.
Initiative of NGOs and Mountarat VEDDAS, both active in the defense and protection of animals, The purpose of the publication of the billboard was to generate the public awakening to the reality of what we consume. "The billboard shows the reality of animal exploitation and, as shocking as it may seem, does not pass the reality exposure. Our goal is to awaken people's interest in learning more about animal exploitation, topic on which every consumer has a share of responsibility ", says George Guimaraes, president VEDDAS - Ethical Vegetarianism, Defense of Animals and Society, Based in São Paulo.
Protest at Arts Biennial of São Paulo
Over 40 activists gathered on 02 October 2010 to protest the confinement of three vultures "compose" a "work of art" of the pseudo-artist Nuno Ramos, affected by such a lack of creativity when having to use animals to illustrate his works that his presence at the Biennale comes to be an offense to Brazilian artists. Using chains and handcuffs (that, moreover, were not detected by the security system with magazine bags and metal detectors that boasts Biennial unsuccessfully), two activists of the NGO VEDDAS strapped to the structure adjacent to the facility where the vultures are confined and enjoyed the company of other activists present, from various fronts of the movement, to inform the visiting public about the crimes they were witnessing, emphasizing that this was no mere polemic or a simple critique of work, but the witness of an environmental crime which is very well defined by Brazilian law.

National Meeting on Animal Rights
The National Meeting on Animal Rights is the only national event focused on animal rights activism, that in addition to a lot of information with the best speakers, prizes also for creating an environment of much integration between individuals and groups that make up the animal rights movement in Brazil. In its second edition held in 09 a 12 October 2010, the ENDA met in a self-sustainable ecovillage located in São Paulo 130 ativistas Vindos of 13 Brazilian states (from as far as Acre and Pará) determined to empower themselves as activists, discuss the movement and nurture in their differences. Featuring national and international speakers and renowned with the contribution of experienced campaigners, as two crew members of the Sea Shepherd Antarctic missions and collaboration of activists who are operating true transformations in their localities, The event caused a very positive outcome among participants, that besides the lectures could also join together in times like tours, campfire and delicious vegan meals.

Nuno Ramos Response
On 17 October 2010, George Guimarães, president VEDDAS, sent a reply to the text of Nuno Ramos "White Flag, love: In defense of the pride and the will of the art ", published in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo on the same date. No text, George confronts the tone vitimista the pseudo-artist and gives the message that animal exploitation in "works of art" will no longer be tolerated by animal rights activists.

Vedder-Cart
Education and awareness for animal rights on the streets
Thanks to the commitment and organization of our dedicated volunteers, thousands of people have been touched by contact with the display of videos held on public roads by VEDDAS-MOBILE, always accompanied by volunteers trained and willing to provide clarification and guidance necessary to enable the individual to awaken to the animal consciousness.
At the end of September 2010, the VEDDAS launched a new initiative that follows the same line of VEDDAS-MOBILE: the Vedder-Cart, a car load (non-motorized) equipped with battery, TV and sound to transport the multimedia equipment to public places where access or residence of the motor vehicle are not allowed. The rationale for the proposal is based in the environmental preservation, the promotion of human health and respect for animal rights.
