For more than a decade, different groups dedicated to the protection and animal advocacy work to abolish the use of animals in circuses. Over the past two years, underway in the Committee on Education and Culture of the House of Representatives Bill 7.291/2006, which prohibits the use of animals in circuses nationwide. On the eve of the vote, the VEDDAS, represented by its President George Guimarães, Brasilia was the leading the undersigned containing about 100.000 signatures of citizens around the country who claimed to be opposed to the presence of animals in circuses.

Hours before the vote, the VEDDAS, accompanied by activists from other groups, participated in the discussion to define the replacement text that, among other issues, provided for the exclusion of the prohibition of domestic animals of the PL. The positioning of the activists was firm in not accepting negotiations with respect to this point. The text was set, kept getting the positioning in relation to the prohibition of the display of any animal species in circuses.

The bill was presented in the plenary 10 the Chamber of Deputies in the presence of activists accompanied the stack of signatures whose delivery was entrusted to that date VEDDAS. The PL was approved unanimously and now processed in the Federal Senate.

The airfare was donated by Surya Brazil and other travel expenses were paid by the President of VEDDAS, so NGO non burdening.
