Every year, over 20 thousand dolphins are killed in Taiji (Japan) to be sold as food and are sold to other parks and aquariums. This cruel industry profitable and has the full support of the Japanese government that works to hide the eyes of the world what happens in this small Japanese town.
Hunting season starts on 01 September VEDDAS and calls everyone to express their outrage to the Japanese government bringing his voice to a peaceful protest and energetic in front of the Japanese Consulate in Sao Paulo.

The city of São Paulo will participate in the rally world against killing 20 thousand dolphins in the province of Taiji in Japan. Convened by the NGO VEDDAS (Ethical Vegetarianism, Defense of Animals and Society) for the next day 31/08/2012 12.30, protest held in front of the Consulate General of Japan at Avenida Paulista, 854 and aims to draw public attention to the early season hunting and capture of dolphins. The practice occurs every year and kills more than 20 thousand dolphins that are sold as food or for display in parks and aquariums around the world.
The practice was denounced in 2009 the documentary "The Cove", Oscar winner for Best Documentary, which highlights the activists Ric O'Barry, ex- dolphin trainer, who first denounced the massacre and capture these animals, that occurs every year in this region of Japan.
The protest will be peaceful, but energetic, and aims to deliver a document to the Consul General of Japan expressing outrage from environmentalists and animal rights activists, condemning the practice advocated by local fisherman and the Japanese government under the guise of historical tradition when in reality merely seeks financial gain arising from the death and capture of thousands of dolphins in Taiji province to serve as meat and to be sold to parks water spread throughout the world.

This is the second consecutive year that the NGO VEDDAS held the protest in front of the Japanese consulate in Sao Paulo. In January 2011, George Guimarães, President of Vedder, was in Antarctica participating in the campaign against whaling by Sea Shepherd, in which 850 whales were saved from the Japanese whaling fleet.
