The President of VEDDAS George Guimarães and other voluntary VEDDAS dedicated a week of their work to the American NGO Sea Shepherd Conservation Society aboard the Steve Irwin, its main ship.

Sea Shepherd is an international non-profit organization fighting for the conservation of marine life. Its mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the oceans of the world, conserving and protecting species and ecosystems. It is considered the NGO for the protection of seas world's most active and effective with the participation of thousands of volunteers around the globe.

The activity which activists participated on this occasion was to prepare the ship to sail towards the Mediterranean to combat illegal fishing Bluefin Tuna, endangered species. The presence of volunteers VEDDAS was also important to strengthen ties with activists from other countries.

seashepherdAll travel expenses were funded with own resources of the President of VEDDAS, thereby not burdening the NGO.
